The Importance of Fatty Acids

Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:15 by Christie Egeston   RSS Feed

The Importance of Fatty Acids Presentation Fatty acids are fats found in foods and oils we consume; foods such as fish, flaxseed, olive oil, and processed foods all contain fatty acids.  However, all fats are not “good” fats and can lead to health problems such as cardiovascular disease and inflammatory conditions.  This presentation discusses the importance of fatty acid balance and the role of fatty acids in our diets.

This presentation will cover these questions about essential fatty acids:

  • What are fatty acids and what do they do in the body?
  • How are the pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory pathways affected by fatty acids?
  • What are the benefits of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids?
  • What are the effects of overuse of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids?
  • How can the unbalanced consumption of fatty acids be harmful?
  • How do you know if you are consuming the right amounts of fatty acids?

Learn more about how to assess fatty acid status at the Metametrix.com website:

Ms. Egeston, Thanks so much for this article. I never knew there was so much to fatty acids.  I for one will pay more attention to what I consume.  Keep up the good work!

HPV Treatment

I’m glad this resource is out there, as I really wish that more people would actually read up on dietary sciences before endeavouring on some fad diet, as the majority of them are really not healthy, and tend to focus on either neglecting an essential nutrient, or overdosing on another. Without the right fatty acids, your skin becomes unhealthy, which can mean you’ll be signing up for acne and HPV treatment not long after you start dieting. I’ll probably have to bookmark this one and show it to my sister in law the next time she picks up on some miracle diet.
